Privacy Policy

Overview
USA Made Finder (“we,” “us,” or “the platform”) is a directory for discovering and supporting products made in the USA. This policy explains what information we collect through the site, why we collect it, and how it is used. It covers the platform as it actually operates today — not hypothetical future features.
Information you provide
We collect information you choose to give us:
- Product recommendations. When you use “Recommend a Product,” we store the product name, brand name, an optional link, optional notes (including where the “Made in USA” claim appears), and an optional email address if you'd like to be notified of the outcome. You do not need an account to recommend a product.
- Account information. If you register an account (used for brand ownership and the brand dashboard), we store your email address and a securely hashed password. We never store your password in plain text.
- Brand claims. If you claim ownership of a brand listing, we store your email address and any message you provide to support the claim.
- Product edit requests. Brand owners may propose changes to their product listings (name, description, state of origin, official link, image). Proposed changes are tied to the requesting account and reviewed by an admin before anything is applied.
- Uploaded images. Authenticated brand owners and admins can upload product or brand images. Uploaded files are stored with our image hosting provider, Cloudflare (R2 storage).
- Contact messages. If you use the contact form, we receive the information you enter (name, email, topic, and message) so we can respond.
Information collected automatically
- Session data. If you sign in (as an admin or brand owner), we set a session cookie to keep you logged in. It is used only to authenticate your session — not for advertising or cross-site tracking.
- Affiliate link activity. When an outbound product link on this site is an affiliate link, clicking it is logged: a one-way hashed version of your IP address, your browser's user agent, and the referring page. The hash cannot be reversed to recover your original IP address. This is used only to understand which listings drive outbound interest — never to identify individual visitors.
We do not currently use third-party analytics, advertising, or cross-site tracking scripts on this site. If that changes, this policy will be updated first.
How we use information
- To review and, where warranted, publish product submissions and brand claims.
- To operate the brand dashboard for verified brand owners.
- To send transactional emails related to actions you’ve taken (see below).
- To respond to contact and privacy inquiries.
- To maintain the security and integrity of the platform.
Email communications
We use Resend, a transactional email service, to send account and moderation emails — for example, a welcome email on registration, and status updates when a submission, brand claim, or edit request is approved or rejected. Admins also receive email notifications of new submissions and claims awaiting review. We do not send marketing email, and email sending is entirely tied to actions taken on the platform.
Service providers
We rely on a small number of service providers to operate the platform:
- Hosting and a PostgreSQL database, to run the site and store the information described above.
- Cloudflare, to store and serve uploaded product and brand images (R2 storage).
- Resend, to deliver transactional email (see above).
These providers process information on our behalf to operate the service. We do not sell personal information, and we do not share it with third parties for advertising purposes.
Data retention
We retain information for as long as it's needed for the purpose it was collected — for example, account data for as long as your account is active, and submission or claim records as part of our moderation history. We don't currently enforce a fixed automatic deletion schedule; if you'd like your information reviewed, corrected, or deleted, contact us using the contact page.
Security
We take reasonable measures to protect information — including hashing passwords and hashing IP addresses used in click logging — but no system is completely secure. We cannot guarantee absolute security of information transmitted to or stored by the platform.
Your choices
You can decline to provide an email address on the recommendation form. If you have an account, you can request access, correction, or deletion of your information by contacting us. If you no longer want to receive a specific status-update email, that email relates to a one-time action you took (like a submission) rather than an ongoing subscription.
Children
USA Made Finder is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect information from children under 13.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy as the platform evolves. Material changes will be reflected by updating the “Last updated” date at the top of this page.
